Mommy was in the mood for Chicken and Dumplings...so I decided to let Gavin and Georgia make the dumplings. They love to help me cook, but it usually is just dumping ingredients into bowls and then mixing them up. This time they got to make the dumpling dough with their hands. Gavin said "we have never been this messy before". They washed their hands, knew the rules - their hands were only to be in the bowl and to touch nothing else, and we were ready to make dinner. They were so proud of dinner that night!

That was the question for us. The answer was, let's give the bus a try. From the very start of kindergarten planning, I thought "I stay home, I will take my kid to and from school". After a few days of that here is what I thought:
So we signed up for the bus. We assumed our carpool buddy Nicholas (who lives 1 block from us) would be on the same bus. Therefore they would have each other. They are not on the same bus...so us moms just decided to see how it goes. Right now the Kindergartner's are getting out at 12:45 instead of the regular 3:10 with everyone else. So right now they come home without the older kids. I like that Gavin has this training period. We are just going to play it by ear.
Gavin took it to school for the first time on Wednesday. And he was so excited! The bus brought him home for the first time today and he was beaming. So I think that he will for sure be on the bus in the morning. And then depending on what Mommy and Georgia have planned for the day, he will either take the bus home or I will pick him up.
Bus pulling up on the first day....
Day 2 getting on the bus...
Coming home for the first time on the bus...

We survived the first day!! Gavin woke up beaming and ready for school. We had picked out his clothes the night before so there would be no issues with wearing the button down shirt. He was so excited to go, he didn't finish his breakfast. We all hopped in the car for the ride to school. When we walked into Gavin's classroom, he walked right over to his locker to put his backpack away and then found his seat. He shares a desk with 2 other kids (Harmony & Fernanda). Gavin didn't even get out of his chair to say goodbye to us. He was so excited to get the party started!
I was emotional and was holding down the tears, but not because I was sad...but because I was just as excited for him as he was for himself. I was excited to have a kindergartner, excited to see him growing up, and just excited about life! It is 7pm and he is still beaming from his day. He loved everything about it! When I asked him what was his favorite part about kindergarten he said "nothing" in his playful, silly boy way. Then he told me when he says "nothing" that means that he liked everything about it and there wasn't anything that he didn't like.
Georgia was excited to see Gavin go to school, but she thought that it meant that she will go to school there too. At the Back to school night, she kept asking where her class was. (She will start preschool the second week of September and will go 2 days a week.) For now I have told her that her and Mommy will be having lots of girl time! Daddy just hopes that means we won't be spending money. =]! When we were saying goodbye to Gavin in his classroom, Georgia asked for a hug from him...of course he didn't want to give her one, so she just grabbed him and squeezed...check out the picture below (along with a few others from Gavin's day).

Monday, was our second to last day of summer...does that seem right since it was only August 18th? Well, anyway...we went to Adventureland (Iowa's version of an amusement park, lol!), with our close friends - Gina, Isabel, Sean, Katie, Nicholas, and Andrew. Isabel and Nicholas will also start Kindergarten this week. Nicholas and Gavin will go to the same school.
Last night was Gavin's meet the teacher night. He got a tour of the school, a tour of his class room, and to meet his teacher. Oh...and an Ice Cream (before dinner!). His teacher's name is Miss Cuthbertson. Gavin showed his excitement in true Gavin fashion by smiling ear to ear, squeaking, and then burying his head in my stomach - as if the boy is shy, HA!
Gavin & Isabel Proud Kindergartner!!
